Transport

In combination with the construction of the long-awaited Stoke Gifford Transport Link, the development of this strategic site will help improve transport locally by creating a new route across the railway line and through the site for both general traffic and the planned new MetroBus. This is expected to benefit Stoke Gifford in particular and relieve pressure around Parkway Station.

Local bus services will be provided through the development connecting to key nearby interchanges such as UWE, Parkway and Abbeywood.

Connectivity to pedestrian and cycle routes and new linkages will encourage journeys by non-car means of transport including by bus, walking and cycling and will mean that residents and visitors to the new development will be well placed to travel by a range of sustainable means.

SGTL under Construction

The Stoke Gifford Transport Link (SGTL) is currently under construction and is due to be open to traffic in Spring 2017. The road will connect Filton Road, the A4174 ring road, in the south to Parkway North roundabout in the north connecting to Hambrook Lane at a traffic light junction.

Hambrook Lane

Access between Hambrook Lane and the wider area is important and will be retained as part of the proposals. As part of the outline application the junction with SGTL and the route to the east of the SGTL will be changed but no access routes will be prevented.

The options for the future operation of Hambrook Lane was the most frequently raised issue during our consultation and we received mixed feedback from respondents.

Following analysis of the comments received, we have proposed retaining the existing alignment of Hambrook Lane and the junction with Old Gloucester Road, and providing the additional connection to Old Gloucester Road through the new development. Additional traffic calming measures are also being considered, subject to agreement with the Council.
